According to Punch newspaper,a police inspector, Ajele Oloyede, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while on security duty at a ceramics factory in Igbesa, Ogun State.

Credible reports indicated that the incident occurred on Thursday, with details emerging on Sunday.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that Officer Tolorunloju Stephen, who had been away in Ikeja, discovered the incident upon his return around 1:20 p.m.

Upon entering the security office, Officer Stephen found Inspector Oloyede with his head resting on a table. When Stephen inquired about his well-being, Oloyede responded that he was okay.

According to Odutola, Officer Stephen placed his bag and pistol on the table before going to the restroom. Shortly after, a gunshot was heard.

When Officer Stephen came out of the restroom, he reportedly found Inspector Oloyede lying in a pool of blood, having apparently shot himself.

Inspector Oloyede was rushed to Ota General Hospital with the assistance of private security personnel, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.

The police processed the scene, recovering Inspector Oloyede’s pistol. His body was taken to Ota General Hospital for an autopsy, and authorities have begun notifying his family of the tragic incident.

Odutola added that the case will be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for a thorough investigation.
