According to a report from 1:47 by Channels TV on Thursday December 11, 2025, the professionalism of the Nigerian Police Force has become a laughing stock due to the widespread practice of officers performing demeaning and non-security-related duties for Very Important Persons (VIPs) and political figures, according to Ambrose Igboke, the Chairman of the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria, Enugu Chapter.
Igboke argued that the current misuse of police personnel extends far beyond the justifiable provision of specialized security services.
“It has become a latent stock of Police professionalism where policemen even go around carrying you know if it was even restricted to um policing providing security for VIPs then we could say okay let’s look at it professionally,” Igboke stated.
He detailed a range of degrading, unprofessional tasks that uniformed officers are now commonly seen performing, completely unrelated to their core security functions.
“But the police are all kinds of unprofessional things carrying handbags for women during parties carrying bags for men going on errands as house boys and house girls acting as gate men in some houses of the VIP opening gates and opening doors, all kinds of things that are not tied to security. So it has become a laughing stock.”
Igboke concluded that this rampant abuse of police manpower has severely damaged the institution’s public image and operational integrity. View, More,
