According to a report by Channels TV from 3:04, on Monday March 30, 2026, following recent violent attacks in Plateau State, former federal lawmaker Dachung Bagos has emphasized that the solution to the region’s recurring insecurity lies in the hands of the local population.
Bagos highlighted that the youth of affected communities are not only willing but eager to take up the mantle of formal security to protect their ancestral homes.
Speaking specifically on the resilience and potential of the community in Angwan Rukuba, Bagos noted that a lack of local manpower and equipment not a lack of will is what currently leaves these areas vulnerable to marauding gunmen.
“With the number of youths you saw in Angwa Rukuba community, I can tell you a lot of them will volunteer to be in the state police,” Bagos asserted.
The former lawmaker argued that the intimate knowledge of the terrain possessed by residents is a strategic advantage that the current centralized security architecture fails to leverage.
According to him, an indigenous police force would ensure that attackers no longer have easy exit routes after committing atrocities.
“That is their locality and once we can be able to police our environment, nobody can enter that environment and go out scot-free,” he added.
Bagos also pointed to the logistical deficiencies facing the Nigeria Police Force. He cited an example of a police station located in close proximity to a recent attack site, which was unable to intervene effectively due to a lack of firepower and personnel.
