The Labour Party campaign of Peter Obi has expressed indifference to the recent discussions suggesting former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential entry into the 2027 presidential race, The Punch reports. This comes after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed Jonathan’s possible return to the party.
Amid growing dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly among Northern elites and politicians, the sentiment for change is gaining momentum. Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has even offered to withdraw his own presidential bid if Jonathan decides to run.
Yunusa Tanko, spokesperson for Obi’s campaign, stated that focusing on the 2027 presidential race is premature. He emphasized that their current priority is addressing the welfare, needs, and challenges of Nigerians, as well as strengthening their platform’s structure.
Tanko assured that they will address any issues that arise when the time comes, but for now, they remain focused on their current objectives.
He said, “We are not unsettled by any developments. Right now, our focus is solely on addressing the welfare, needs, and challenges of Nigerians.
“We are also dedicating our efforts to strengthening our platform’s structure. When the time comes, we will address any issues that arise.”….Vïêw–Môrê
