In a recent interview from 15:15 shared by Arise News, Professor of Communications at Baze University, Abiodun Adeniyi, examined the emerging alliances within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the challenges they may face ahead of the next general elections.
Adeniyi noted that while the growing coalition within the ADC presents a strong opposition front, internal negotiations over leadership positions could become a major hurdle. He pointed specifically to the potential partnership between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing it as politically strategic but complex.
According to him, both leaders command significant followership and political influence in their respective regions, making the question of who leads the ticket a sensitive issue. He emphasized that supporters play a crucial role in shaping these decisions, especially in a politically charged environment.
As he stated, “Obi’s followers will not want him to play second fiddle, and in 2023, Kwankwaso said he cannot play second.”
The professor added that this situation could lead to disagreements within the coalition if not carefully managed.
