Prophet Isa El-Buba, President of El-Buba Outreach Ministries in Jos, has spoken about his efforts to bridge regional and ethnic divides in Nigerian politics, particularly regarding northern acceptance of southeastern political candidates.
In an interview with Dr. Damages from 47:37, the religious leader discussed his ministry’s role in promoting national unity and political inclusiveness.
“We’re building, transforming the people to believe in one Nigeria,” Prophet El-Buba stated, outlining his organization’s mission of fostering national cohesion.
The Jos-based cleric acknowledged existing regional prejudices while explaining his efforts to overcome them. “I am from the far North. The one person that the far Northerner will never support is an Igbo man, because of history,” he said, referencing historical tensions between regions.
He also addressed common perceptions in northern Nigeria about southeastern political leadership. “Secondly, we believe that the Igbo man, you give him a little power, he wants to dominate. That’s the mindset,” Prophet El-Buba noted, describing prevailing attitudes he sought to change.
The religious leader detailed his personal involvement in mobilizing cross-regional support during recent political campaigns. “But if you look at it, I was the one that brought the Igbo man, accepted him, brought Islamic clerics. They stood on the podium. They supported,” he explained.
Prophet El-Buba described his mobilization efforts across different northern regions. “I mobilized the Middle Belt. The Middle Belt leaders. I mobilized the far North,” he said, outlining the scope of his outreach activities.
The cleric claimed his interventions had significant impact on northern political acceptance. “That was how Peter Obi, by the grace of God, was able to be accepted in the North here,” Prophet El-Buba concluded, referring to the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
