According to reports by The Vanguard, Peter Obi, who ran as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has explained that his participation in a political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is driven by a desire to improve Nigeria, not by personal political ambitions.
Obi made this clarification after a report surfaced claiming he had agreed to be the vice-presidential candidate for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 election. The report also suggested that Atiku had promised to serve only one term and was ready to sign a formal agreement to that effect.
When asked about this during an event in Kubwa, Abuja, Obi chose not to directly confirm or deny the report. Instead, he stressed that his main concern is working with others to fight bad governance, poverty, and hunger in the country.
“You can interpret the report however you want,” Obi said. “My role in the coalition is to fight against bad governance, hunger, and poverty.”
He was speaking at an event where he donated to a school and hospital project run by the Anglican Church. There, he also spoke about the need to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
As the 2027 elections approach, many people have been curious about Obi’s political future. But his comments show that his focus is on solving Nigeria’s pressing problems rather than aiming for a political post.
Obi is known for his interest in improving healthcare, education, and social welfare. His message has connected with young people and those who are looking for meaningful change in the country.
Although he didn’t win in the 2023 presidential race, many Nigerians still see him as a hopeful leader. His recent comments make it clear that he plans to keep working for the betterment of Nigeria, whether or not he is a candidate.
Peter Obi is saying that his involvement in the coalition is all about tackling Nigeria’s deep-rooted issues, like poor leadership and widespread poverty, not about seeking power for himself.
