Reno Omokri, a former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, has alleged that Peter Obi misled the public by claiming he had never seen a presidential convoy with ambulances. He argued that such convoys are standard in many countries, including the United States, Russia, Indonesia, and even smaller nations like Sierra Leone—all of which typically include ambulances in their presidential motorcades.
He stated that while Nigeria is still a developing country with healthcare challenges, security precautions for national leaders remain essential. According to him, the only Nigerian head of state who did not move with an ambulance was General Murtala Muhammed, whose assassination in 1976 highlighted the risks involved.
He said that he’s never seen a presidential convoy with ambulances. I went online, I put videos of President Trump’s convoy—with at least two ambulances, Of President Putin’s convoy—with at least two ambulances. He likes Indonesia—he went to Indonesia—I put videos of the president of Indonesia with two ambulances. Even Sierra Leone—that tiny country—the president moves with ambulances.
We are a poor country that is trying to get better. We cannot have everything at once. But listen—the only president that we had in Nigeria that did not have an ambulance on his convoy—his name was General Murtala Muhammed. What happened? He was killed on February 13, 1976.
