Former Labour Party vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has revealed that Peter Obi previously warned Nigerians against expecting American intervention to resolve the country’s security crisis.
Baba-Ahmed recalled Obi’s message to Nigerians. “Peter Obi once said Nigerians wake up, they’re killing you, and you are waiting for Americans. Wake up. No American will ever bomb you for your development,” he said in an interview with Arise TV.
Baba-Ahmed argued that the United States will not deploy its taxpayers’ resources to establish peace in Nigeria. “American taxpayers’ money is valuable, and they know the value, if we don’t know ours. Yes, Americans can strike. They struck Libya. They struck many places. Nobody from any country will come and do for you what you are lazy to do for yourself,” he stated.
The former vice presidential candidate contrasted Nigeria’s situation with smaller nations that have achieved prosperity through effective leadership.
He noted that Nigerians possess superior education levels, with Nigerian doctors and surgeons staffing hospitals in these countries.
Baba-Ahmed attributed the success of these nations to mutual trust between leaders and citizens rather than resources or population size.
He described these societies as societies where leaders govern based on performance rather than elections, where citizens enjoy comfortable lives because their leaders prioritize their welfare—a model he suggested Nigeria could emulate through better governance rather than external intervention.
