During an interview with Arise Television, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, explained why he chose not to join a new political coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He said he was not yet convinced about leaving the Labour Party. “My own thinking was, convince me why I should come into ADC. Where was ADC in 2023, when the Labour Party got 10 million votes?” he asked. He added that he is still waiting for a clear reason to make such a big move.
Datti Baba-Ahmed also spoke about Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023. He made it clear that he could not speak on Obi’s behalf, “I don’t want to speak for him, but when he’s okay, he will speak for himself.”
He emphasized that to the best of his knowledge, Peter Obi is still with the Labour Party. “Labour Party’s arms are open to welcome Peter Obi,” he said. He also mentioned that he would like to see Obi run for president again in 2027, whether he (Datti) is part of the campaign or not.
