In an interview on TVC News from 2:00, Segun Showunmi spoke about the Labour Party and its recent struggles, placing part of the blame on Peter Obi for the party’s apparent decline since the 2023 elections.

Showunmi argued that before Obi joined, the Labour Party had existed as a modest political platform without significant national influence. He said Obi’s entry and presidential run gave the party life, visibility, and structure, making it look like a serious political force for the first time.

However, he noted that since the elections ended, the momentum that Obi brought has faded. According to him, Obi’s reduced involvement has caused the party to slide back into its old, less effective state.

He questioned Obi’s understanding of leadership, saying a true leader should stay to resolve issues rather than step back during internal crises. Showunmi added that the Labour Party’s return to instability and disorganization stems from Obi’s failure to maintain his active role within the party.

In his words, “The Labour Party, you have to blame Peter Obi for that. That party had been around, albeit a medium-size party, nothing over the top until Peter came in there and they gave him their ticket. And to his credit, he phenomenally did well and they started looking like a good party. What does Peter think is the responsibility of a leader? Does Peter think the responsibility of the leader is to always move when there’s a crisis or not to solve the problem? Now suddenly he’s backed off them a bit, even though he says he’s not left, and the Labour Party has gone back to its mediocre ways.” See, More, Here>>>
