Retired Major Seun Fadipe, who previously served as Chief Security Officer to the late Lieutenant General Oladipo Diya under the regime of General Sani Abacha, has commended Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, for his impressive performance.

In a recent interview with Channels TV from 6:19, Fadipe highlighted the unexpected nature of Obi’s achievements, noting that many had underestimated his potential in the election.

He criticized the failure to capitalize on this success, arguing that southeast leaders should be making efforts to strengthen Obi’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Fadipe emphasized the importance of expanding Obi’s appeal beyond his base in the Southeast, urging leaders from the region to actively promote him across other parts of the country, including the Southwest, North Central, and North East. He stressed that regional politics alone cannot achieve nationwide support and called for strategic efforts to broaden Obi’s reach and viability as a national candidate.

He said, “Peter Obi did something marvellous in 2023, and you can’t take that away from him. Nobody believed that he could pull the kind of stunt he pulled. I said, look, what Obi has done in 2023, they should build on it. But, rather than build on it, they are still trying to tear [it down].

“The Southeast, with the kind of votes they gave to Obi, why not package him? This time around, the leaders there should do the work, begin to sell this man, sell him to the Southwest, sell him to North Central, to North East. He has to go beyond the East, his base. You can’t practice regional politics and think it will permeate to the entire nation, no.”
