Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has officially confirmed that he will be on the ballot in the 2027 general election. He also stated clearly that he is open to serving only one term in office if elected, focusing on critical national reforms.

According to a report published by Vanguard on June 30, 2025, Obi made this declaration while addressing his supporters during a live session on X Space on Sunday night. He used the opportunity to clarify his political plans, address the crisis in the Labour Party, and speak on pressing national issues.

“I’ll be on the ballot in 2027,” he declared, assuring his supporters both at home and abroad. He added that he is willing to serve a single four-year term as president if that would help Nigeria move forward.

Obi also dismissed claims that he had discussed or agreed to a joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. “I have not entered into any joint ticket arrangement,” he said firmly, setting the record straight.

Speaking on coalition talks, Obi said he would only support a merger that puts national interest first. “If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, how to revive our economy, how to make our industries productive, how to put food on the tables of Nigerians… Count me out. Nigeria is currently at war. We need to do something about it.”

He also stated that he could bring stability to the country within two years and called on leaders to fix Nigeria from within, instead of constant foreign trips. Obi criticized President Tinubu’s trip to St Lucia, saying: “In 2 years, Tinubu has not spent one night in any state in Nigeria apart from Lagos, yet he is going to spend 8 nights in St Lucia, a place smaller than Ajegunle.”

Obi promised to prioritise security, education, and poverty reduction, and vowed that his presidency would fight corruption and reduce the cost of governance from day one.
