A senior official of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shed light on the party’s ongoing internal struggles and the need for resolution. According to a report from The Sun, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, the PDP South-West zonal secretary, addressed the prolonged nature of the party’s internal conflicts and the steps being taken to address them.
Owokoniran highlighted the delay in establishing key committees crucial for party unity. “Even look at the time that they are putting up the reconciliation and disciplinary committees, over one and half years after the election,” he noted, expressing concern about the time taken to initiate these important processes.
The PDP official cautioned against hasty decisions in the aftermath of the election. “Immediately after the election, people wanted Wike and other people to go. If we had gone that way, PDP would have gone by today,” Owokoniran stated, suggesting that rash actions could have been detrimental to the party’s survival.
He emphasized the complexity of the situation, arguing that the blame cannot be attributed to a single individual. “There are tendencies that led to those crises and the blame cannot be put on one person,” Owokoniran asserted, calling for a more nuanced understanding of the issues at hand.

Owokoniran also touched on the role of the party’s leadership in managing the situation. “It was this same Damagum that said he was in charge and would do what is best for the party,” he noted, referring to the party’s acting National Chairman.
