Former Kaduna South Senator and renowned human rights activist, Senator Shehu Sani recently reacted to general Theophilus Danjuma’s comments that affected communities of terrorists attacks should rise up and defend themselves. According to his statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that people should not fold their arms and be slaughtered by bandits.

The recent killings and maiming rampant in the North Central region particularly in Plateau and Benue states had generated controversies after different individuals urged the affected communities to rise and defend themselves.

However, many were of the opinion that residents of the affected areas should not be allowed to take up arms to prevent anarchy, an assertion which infuriated a lot of security experts.

Reacting, Major General Theophilus Danjuma, a military general, had urged those inhabiting the affected communities to rise up and defend themselves, a statement which has been picked up by Senator Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna South lawmaker.

In his statements which were shared on his official X handle, Senator Shehu Sani pointed out that General Danjuma only repeated what many had earlier said.

He argued that people should not just sit, fold their arms and be slaughtered by bandits. According to the Senator, Security was a collective responsibility.

“Self Defence; TY Danjuma only repeated what many have earlier said. People shouldn’t just fold their arms and be slaughtered by bandits. What is then the meaning of the popular phrase that security is a collective responsibility?’ He wrote.
