During an interview on News Central TV, American missionary Alex Barbir spoke about his experience in Jos following the recent wave of deadly attacks, describing how close the violence occurred to his location and raising concerns about the scale of insecurity in the region.
Barbir’s remarks come amid renewed killings in parts of Plateau State, where gunmen launched coordinated attacks on communities, leaving dozens dead and several others injured. The incidents have once again drawn attention to the persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, with residents and observers expressing fears over the frequency and intensity of such assaults.
Reflecting on the situation, Barbir said the proximity of the attacks made it easy for him to reach the scene quickly, noting that the violence has become an almost unavoidable reality for those living in affected areas. He added that the pattern and coordination of the attacks suggest a deeper crisis, which he described as resembling a domestic conflict.
According to him, “Since my time in Nigeria, I cannot come here and not experience killing.” People ask, “How was I so quick to go to the scene there in Jos?” When people are massacred 10 minutes to your hotel, it doesn’t take long to go. I could walk to the scene.” Read_More…
