In a recent Facebook post, Nigerian author and public commentator Reno Omokri shared a thought-provoking message on the difference between formal education and life experience.

Using the example of the renowned magician and entrepreneur, Professor Peller, Omokri emphasized that academic qualifications are not the only pathway to success.

He wrote, “Peller did not go to university, but the people applying to work for him went to university and some even have a Masters.”

Through this illustration, Omokri sought to underline that success in life does not solely depend on academic degrees.

Instead, he argued that street smarts, resilience, and life skills often play an even greater role in achieving wealth and influence.

He urged people not to conflate education with growth, stating, “Let’s all learn from that. What you learn from school will make you educated. But it is what you learn from life that will make you rich.”

According to Omokri, while schools offer structured learning and certifications, they do not automatically guarantee wealth or practical wisdom.

Life, he argued, teaches lessons that are vital for personal development, financial success, and long-term growth.

Omokri further warned against relying solely on academic credentials without adapting to real-world challenges.

He stated, “Do not confuse going to school with growing through life. If you go to school, but don’t grow through life, you will grow through suffering.”

This, he explained, is a common trap that leaves many graduates jobless or unfulfilled despite their educational background.

Closing his message with a philosophical reflection, he wrote, “Don’t have this idea that school is an institution you go to. Life, itself, is a school!”

Omokri’s advice encourages individuals to embrace life experiences with the same seriousness as formal education, noting that real success often comes from how one applies knowledge in real-life situations.
