Kaduna-based Islamic scholar and public commentator, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmud Gumi, has addressed misconceptions surrounding his peace outreach to armed groups, stating that his efforts are rooted in faith and not an endorsement of criminality.
This was revealed during an interview aired on BBC Hausa shared by DAILY TRUST on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
He made the remarks while discussing the worsening security situation in Nigeria and the role of religious leaders in conflict resolution.
In the interview, Gumi expressed frustration over the lack of institutional support for his peace initiatives, noting that his attempts to mediate were ignored by the previous administration. He warned that the ongoing violence would persist unless the root causes were addressed.
The cleric also hinted at the possibility of foreign interference in Nigeria’s security crisis, suggesting that the scale of the unrest may not be entirely domestic.
Gumi said, “Our religion does not condone oppression; all what we are doing is for the sake of Allah.” View, More,
