Senator Ekpenyong Chris, one of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has spoken about where he believes the party went wrong.
According to a Vanguard report on April 27, Chris said many people who once gained a lot from the PDP have now abandoned the party and don’t seem to care about saving it anymore. He said the people who could have helped bring the party back to life, especially in the North, are just sitting quietly and doing nothing.
Chris said the PDP made a huge mistake after former President Yar’Adua died. He said the PDP should have allowed another Northerner to take over power after Yar’Adua’s death but instead, the party insisted that it was the South’s turn to lead. He said this decision weakened the PDP badly. In his words: “PDP made a huge mistake after late President Yar’Adua’s death. They should have let someone from the North continue. But they insisted it was the South’s turn. That disrupted the balance.
