An APC Chieftain in Edo state, Andrew Emwata has alleged that the PDP has never lost an election in Edo Central until the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Okpebholo contested in the last Senatorial election and won in the five local government in Edo central.
He highlighted the PDP’s dominance in the South, particularly in Edo Central, where they have consistently won Senatorial seats since 1999. However, he stated that Okpebholo broke this streak by winning across all wards in the five local government. He argued that the Labour Party Candidate, Olumide Akpata’s criticism of Okpebholo profile is wrong. He pointed out that Akpata has never contested in a conventional election and that he is inexperienced in electoral politics.
He said in an interview with Channels TV From 3:34, ”I think Olumide Akpata has never contested in a conventional election. This is not association politics. I love Akpata as a person because he was NBA President but this is the first time he will be contesting an election. So he’s wrong to say our candidate does not have the right profile to be elected. This is a man who won election as a Senator.
Since 1999 when Democracy returned in Nigeria, PDP has occupied the majority of the Senatorial seats in the South. PDP has never lost any election in Edo Central until last year when Okpebholo contested and he won in 5 Local government. And he won because the people saw him as a Humanitarian, he defeated the sitting Senator across all the wards of that Senatorial district. He brought a new winning streak to Edo Central for APC. So he’s a serial winner in the political arena.”
