Vera Shagari, the wife of the late Chief Shagari Job the traditional ruler of Itama in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State who was murdered, has shared how her husband died on the same day his rival for the kingship position, Sunday Pat, had threatened would be his last day on earth
Speaking in an interview with Brekete Family, a human rights program, Vera disclosed that her husband was a police officer in Kaduna before he was called home to take the traditional title. She mentioned that a man named Sunday Pat frequently troubled her husband over the kingship title, even though he was not from any of the four ruling houses in their community.
According to Vera, on August 9, 2024 Pat told her husband that his (Shagari) fate had already been decided and that he had only until Monday to live. She said “Pat told my husband that they have concluded his issue and the last day they gave him to live on this earth was Monday”
Vera explained that her husband got Pat arrested, but later released him after he signed an undertaking. However, on Sunday evening, after being released, Pat came to their house and insulted her husband. She stated that on Monday her husband was shot and killed in front of Pat’s house while returning from where he went to withdraw money.
