Kenneth Okonkwo, the former spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential campaign, has firmly rejected any possibility of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing deep concerns over national security and regional representation.

Okonkwo speaking in an interview From 20:26 minutes with Channels TV highlighted the deteriorating security situation as a major deterrent. “If I say I’m going back to APC to meet a country or a party where a general, who is a former DG of NYSC, is picked on the road like a common criminal by bandits,” he stated, referencing recent security incidents.

The former spokesman particularly emphasized the violence in his home region, noting, “Where, in my place, Southeast, you could see how a member of the House of Assembly was killed and his corpse deposited along the road.”

Kenneth Okonkwo also criticized what he perceives as regional bias in government appointments. “Don’t tell me that, out of six geopolitical zones, a man came in and he’s choosing only people from the Southwest, and not even all the Yorubas who are qualified, but his own loyalists,” he said.

While maintaining his position, he expressed openness to change under the right circumstances. “Let me tell you, I will be the first to admit if APC changes today and is doing good for Nigeria,” he stated, adding, “I resigned on principle, and until those issues are addressed, I remain opposed to any party that will not recognize our diversity.”
