Chijioke Ihunwo, the newly elected Obio Akpor Local Government Chairman, has narrated how some hoodlums attempted to invade the Obio Akpor council with the intent of setting it ablaze. He stated how the security personnel attached to the council prevented them from gaining access.

He lamented that although the police headquarters was nearby, the police did not intervene. He highlighted how the council’s security team successfully scared off the hoodlums, who fled the scene. He expressed his relief that despite the chaos, they were unharmed and had resumed work.

He said in an interview with Arise TV From 9:48, ‘We were supposed to go to our various local governments to resume office and swear in the Vice Chairman and the 17 councillors in our local government. Upon arrival, after they conducted the swearing-in of the Vice Chairman and the councillors, we went around to inspect the offices. I saw the level of damage that had been done there before. But before we came in, we started hearing shooting across the road.

Some hoodlums wanted to invade the council in an attempt to burn it down, but because of the security men attached to the council, they couldn’t get access to the place. Our secretariat is close to the police headquarters but the police didn’t do anything. However, the police attached to the council did their best to scare them away, and they ran away. But we are fine, and we have resumed work. And we have the capacity to protect the lives and property in our local government.”
