According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, November 1, 2025, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has stated that the reported plan by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on Nigeria may be connected to Nigeria’s recent international positions.
Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu and a well-known northern elder, said Nigeria’s foreign policy stance has not pleased some powerful countries.
He explained that the country’s open criticism of Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and its campaign for Africa to have a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council may have provoked foreign backlash.
According to him, Nigeria only stood for truth and justice.
He said the country has been consistent in calling out global powers that act unfairly toward weaker nations.
He added that Nigeria’s position on the Gaza conflict reflects its support for human rights and the protection of innocent lives.
Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria’s “crime” in the eyes of some Western leaders is that it dared to speak boldly on sensitive global issues.
He stated that while many countries remain silent about the suffering of Palestinians, Nigeria chose to condemn the killings and call for peace.
He argued that the international community should not punish Nigeria for demanding fairness and equality for Africa.
According to him, asking for a permanent seat for Africa at the UN Security Council is not a threat but a call for global balance and inclusion.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that no nation should be targeted for expressing moral views.
He said the world must accept that African countries also have a voice in global affairs.
“Our only crime is that we spoke the truth that what Israel is doing to Palestinians in Gaza is worse than what Nazi Germany did to the Jews during World War II. We also asked that Africa and the black world be given a permanent seat on the UN Security Council,” he said. View, More,
