Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has come to the defense of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, rejecting accusations of dictatorial behavior. He asserted that Oshiomhole grants him autonomy in managing state matters.
His remarks come during ongoing discussions about various leadership styles in Edo State and the relationship between elected officials and their constituents.
In an appearance on CHANNELS TV “Politics Today,” Okpebholo characterized Oshiomhole’s approach as supportive rather than intrusive. He noted that the senator encourages him to make decisions independently, while also providing advice when needed. Okpebholo frequently consults with Oshiomhole, demonstrating a relationship based on mutual respect and open dialogue.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusive leadership, the governor pointed out that effective governance relies on collaboration and consideration of diverse perspectives.
His words,
“Even the man that they say is a dictator is not dictating anything; I am seeing a different Oshiomhole. Oshiomhole is giving me a free hand. Whenever I want to talk to him, he will say: ‘My son, I know how you feel, just do it your way’. But I will say: ‘Sir, I won’t do it in my way, please advise me,’ and he advises me, and most of the advice comes out to be something positive. You cannot be an island; you have to carry everybody along.”
