The people of Umuojo village in Enugu State have united to banish a native doctor, Onyeka Obu, following his arrest for alleged kidnapping and ritual killings. According to TVC News, Obu was accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl and being involved in the deaths of other community members. His actions shocked the peaceful village and led to strong public outrage.
Led by their village head, Fabian Okeke, the entire community, including youths, elders, women, and religious leaders, gathered to reject and excommunicate Onyeka Obu. They held a rally and marched through the village, carrying placards and chanting songs of rejection. The procession ended at the village boundary, where traditional banishment rites were performed to cut off all ties with him.
In a powerful statement, Okeke said, “We are here to banish him. We don’t want him in our village anymore. He brought shame to us. Our people don’t do such things. We are not killers.”
The angry villagers also set fire to Obu’s vehicles. His mansion was demolished by the state government, following Enugu State laws against criminal activities and properties linked to such crimes.
One of the village elders added, “We have excommunicated him. We have banished him from our village.”
The community pledged never to associate with Obu again. Meanwhile, he was arrested while trying to escape the country. The people of Umuojo say they want to protect their village’s name and values, reminding everyone that they stand for peace, not violence.
