The allegation of sêxual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan caused a stir in the political sphere, with some stakeholders describing it as a national embarrassment that should be investigated.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had previously clashed with the Senate President over the relocation of her seat in the Senate Chamber, stated during an interview on Arise Television that her issues with Akpabio began on December 8, 2023. She recounted that on that day, she and her husband had attended a pre-birthday gathering at Akpabio’s residence in Uyo, following an invitation from him. She claimed she was harassed by the Senate President sexually.

However, while he was reacting to this during an interview (Between 2 -5 minutes) on Arise Television, the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Sen. Onyekachi Onwaebonyi, said there was nothing like that, claiming he was there that night.

He said, “On the issue of sêxual harassment as alleged by Senator Natasha, as God would have it I am an eyewitness. On that faithful day of 8th December 2023, I was among the senators that attended the birthday ceremony of the Senate president, write from the airport, I drove in the same vehicle with the said senator and her husband.”

Further talking, he said, “In fact, I was in the front seat, while the Senator and her husband were in the back seat. At the end of the day we moved to the hometown of the Senate president. I remember very well, as we were coming down from the vehicle, she was complaining of her shoes paining her, that made her and her husband to stay back. Then I ,rushed inside the building to join other senators to inspect the building of the Senate President.
