Human rights advocate, Jake Epelle, has spoken about the political situation in Rivers State, following the recent sacking of commissioners by Governor Siminalayi Fubara after his return to office.
During an interview with News Central TV from 7:05, Epelle shared his thoughts on the lawmakers who stood by Governor Fubara during the state’s political crisis. He mentioned that Victor Oko-Jumbo and three other lawmakers who were loyal to the governor should not be punished or removed from the State Assembly.
“What happens to Victor Oko-Jumbo and the other three, I think they should not be touched,” Epelle said. “I don’t think they should leave the legislative Assembly. They served their time and purpose; they shouldn’t be witch-hunted.”
Epelle also pointed out that, according to the latest court judgment, Martins Amaewhule is currently recognized as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He advised politicians to accept the court’s decision and move on without causing further division.
Speaking on the sacked commissioners, Epelle explained that politics often involves behind-the-scenes negotiations. He said it’s possible that the affected commissioners have already been compensated or offered new opportunities.
“Politicians know how to compensate themselves,” he noted. “Some of them might even move into business while still remaining relevant in politics.” See, More, Here>>>
