Public affairs analyst, Niyi Aborisade has shared a striking historical detail about the Yoruba-Fulani conflicts, revealing that a weapon once seized by Yoruba warrior Oderinlo from Fulani forces is still preserved in his family house in Osogbo.
Speaking on the Edmund Obilo Show on Splash FM 105.5, Aborisade highlighted the significance of tangible historical artifacts in validating oral traditions and recorded accounts of Yoruba history.
“The staff he used is still in the family house. The weapon he seized from the Fulani’s is in our family house in Osogbo. So we have all,” Aborisade stated.
According to him, the preservation of the weapon offers undeniable proof of the events surrounding the clashes between Yoruba defenders and Fulani invaders. He explained that such relics not only serve as historical evidence but also reinforce the memory of sacrifices made by leaders like Oderinlo in protecting Yoruba land.
Aborisade noted that the existence of these artifacts challenges attempts to distort or downplay aspects of Yoruba history. By maintaining these items within families, he said, the Yoruba people preserve a living connection to their past, ensuring that future generations understand the struggles and victories that shaped their identity.
He further stressed the importance of acknowledging and safeguarding historical materials, as they hold cultural, political and educational value. According to him, they also serve as reminders of unity, resilience and the consequences of alliances that shaped the destiny of the region.
Listeners described Aborisade’s revelation as both fascinating and instructive, pointing out that history becomes more compelling when physical evidence backs long-held narratives.
