A fierce reaction has trailed the political earthquake in Delta State, and it’s coming from former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili. In a scathing social media post, Ezekwesili blasted Nigeria’s political class following the mass defection of the entire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Delta State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Quoting an old video of herself speaking on the selfish interests of politicians, she wrote:
“A decade after, the political rascality is on. Yet another cycle of migratory dance of politicians from one vehicle to another.
I told you all that what we have is a diseased political class problem and not their pretense of different political parties. #SiameseTwins”
Her statement came shortly after Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, led the immediate past governor Ifeanyi Okowa, all political appointees, elected public office holders, and party executives in dumping the PDP for the APC.
The mass defection, which unfolded like a political tsunami, effectively dismantled PDP’s long-standing control in the state and handed the structure over to the APC.
Ezekwesili’s remarks quickly sparked online conversations, with many Nigerians echoing her concerns over the lack of ideological direction in the country’s politics.
Observers describe the defection as another episode in Nigeria’s cycle of political realignment without reform. While the APC sees it as a strategic victory, critics insist it reflects the deeper problem of a self-serving political elite with no loyalty to party ideals or the electorate.
Ezekwesili’s voice adds moral weight to that criticism, highlighting what many view as the normalization of political convenience over principle. As Nigeria heads into another election cycle, her warning serves as a stark reminder that the nation’s political future remains in the hands of a class she calls “Siamese Twins,” united not by vision, but by vested interest.
