Former National Treasurer of the Labour Party (LP), Oluchi Oparah, has dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi would be unable to honor a promise to serve only a single four-year term if elected president, describing such claims as “a lie from the pit of hell.” She insisted that Obi’s track record in public office demonstrates a strong commitment to keeping his word and upholding political integrity.

According to Oparah, Obi’s political history offers clear evidence of this. She recalled how, during his time as governor of Anambra State, Obi made a personal promise to the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), that he would never hand over the mandate given to him by APGA to another political party. “Mr. Obi is a man of integrity—Mr. Obi promised the late Odumegwu Ojukwu that he was never going to hand over the mandate given to him from APGA to another political party,” she said.

Oparah stressed that Obi remained loyal to that commitment throughout his two terms in office, even under pressure to switch allegiances. “As at that time, he was the only governor that stayed eight years playing opposition,” she explained, noting that despite political challenges, Obi never abandoned the platform that brought him into power.

She further emphasized that he concluded his tenure by handing over to another APGA governor, Willie Obiano, rather than defecting or aligning with a ruling party for personal advantage. For Oparah, this history of political steadfastness stands as proof that Peter Obi is capable of keeping his promises, both to individuals and to the Nigerian people.
