‎‎Political commentator, Japheth Omojuwa, has stated that Peter Obi will never become the president of Nigeria, as reported by Daily Post on Sunday, 27 July, 2025.

‎Omojuwa described Obi as someone who is still part of Nigeria’s old political system.

‎He argued that Obi was not a new figure in politics, but a product of the same establishment he now criticises.

‎According to him, Obi’s political journey shows he is not as different as many of his supporters believe.

‎He said Obi had held important positions before, including being the governor of Anambra State under APGA.

‎After his time as governor, Omojuwa claimed Obi tried to join the federal cabinet by lobbying for a ministerial post, which he did not get.

‎Eventually, he was appointed Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2015 by then-President Goodluck Jonathan, just before the administration left office.

‎The appointment was later terminated by the incoming Buhari government.

‎Omojuwa also pointed out that Obi served as a vice-presidential candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019.

‎He said that Obi only moved to the Labour Party in 2022, where he branded himself as a fresh and different leader.

‎But Omojuwa believes this was only a rebranding, not a real change.

‎He argued that Obi later began working closely with the same political figures he once called corrupt.

‎He said this proves that Obi has returned to the same political system he claimed to fight against.

‎Omojuwa concluded that Obi’s image as a reformer is false.

‎He believes that Obi has always been part of the system and has not shown signs of being a truly different kind of leader.

‎Because of this, he said Obi has no chance of becoming Nigeria’s president.

‎“The question intentionally pretends that I didn’t give the reason why Obi would never be president.

‎I’m going to give reason. I said that he wouldn’t become president on account of certain things. And the funny thing is, even people that were allies with him have been on your podcast, and they’ve also more or less said the same thing in different ways.

‎There’s a philosopher that says that you cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result.

‎And Peter Obi, he knows that too. You know why he has compromised his position. So Peter Obi was of the system, a beneficiary of the system of the old order,” he said.
