Senator Shehu Sani, a respected and well known human rights activist and former federal lawmaker has reacted to the ongoing brouhaha involving human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that vying for public office attracts all sorts of insults.
The recent verbal confrontations between popular human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju and erstwhile Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi had generated controversies since the commencement of the face-off.
However, while many took to different platforms to take sides with the feuding duo following the defamatory comments and the ensuing threat to sue, Senator Shehu Sani, a renowned human rights activist had different opinions.
According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, while condemning the defamatory comments, pointed out that contesting for public office comes with its own challenges.
He further pointed out that once an individual accepts to run for public office, he had involuntarily chosen to be treated with disdain and contempt. He used the analogy of a ‘public toilet and a dustbin’ to drive down his point.

“When you are vying for public office or occupying a public office, you have voluntarily chosen to be like a public toilet or public dustbin; you all know what the public does to a public toilet and public dustbin.” He wrote
