According to an interview granted to Arise Television, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has lauded Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a resourceful leader whose ideas could greatly benefit Nigeria.
Governor Sule recounted how he warmly received Obi at the Nasarawa Government House despite their political differences. He explained that their discussion was cordial and constructive, with both men reflecting on their long-standing acquaintance. “I addressed him respectfully and reminded him that the elections are over and the focus should now be on governance. I urged him to put aside political rivalry and contribute his wealth of knowledge to support President Bola Tinubu in delivering progress for the Nigerian people,” the governor stated.
Sule noted that his appeal stemmed from a genuine desire to promote unity and accelerate development across the nation, rather than from partisan considerations. He emphasised that leaders from varying political backgrounds must cooperate if the country is to achieve lasting prosperity.
Addressing Obi’s earlier remark about serving only one four-year term if elected president, Sule humorously pointed out that such a promise might not be easy to keep. “Once you get into office, people will mount pressure on you. It’s our turn, you can’t just leave. We won’t allow you to do that — we’ll even take you to court,” he remarked.
The Nasarawa governor concluded by stressing that Nigeria’s challenges require collective effort and open-minded collaboration among leaders, regardless of political affiliation. He said the priority should be the welfare of the citizens, not personal or party interests.
