Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate, Dele Farotimi, has shared his perspective regarding the recent alliance formed by certain opposition party members ahead of the 2027 elections.

His reaction came through a message posted on his official X account on Monday, July 14, 2025. Farotimi’s response followed a comment from a social media user, who argued that the public support Peter Obi enjoys cannot simply be transferred to another candidate, no matter how strong the coalition might appear.

The user emphasized that Obi’s supporters are firmly loyal to him personally and not just to any political structure or alliance.

Responding to this, Farotimi acknowledged Obi’s significance in Nigeria’s political landscape, describing him as a central figure in whom many Nigerians have placed their hopes for change.

He suggested that Obi represents more than just a political leader; he symbolizes the collective aspirations of Nigerians seeking peaceful solutions to the country’s challenges.

Farotimi added that rather than relying solely on formal political coalitions, Obi should recognize that the real strength of any movement lies in the people who believe in his vision for national transformation.

He remarked, “Peter Obi has to understand that he is our totem, the flag bearer of our hope in a peaceful resolution of the Nigerian mess and we are the coalition he needs.
