Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communications for the Obidient Movement, has raised alarms about what she describes as a growing trend of tyranny and disregard for individual rights in Nigeria, particularly targeting Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Speaking in an Arise News interview on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Kazaure highlighted a series of incidents that she believes indicate a deliberate pattern of intimidation by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against opposition figures.
Kazaure pointed to a statement by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, who reportedly suggested that Obi should accept whatever consequences come his way, a remark widely interpreted as a veiled threat.
This rhetoric, Kazaure argued, set a dangerous precedent, which she claims was echoed by actions from APC-led state governments.
In April 2025, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia cautioned Obi against visiting the state for a humanitarian mission without official clearance, citing security concerns.
Obi subsequently canceled the trip, citing the politicization of his charitable efforts.
The pattern continued with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, who, on July 18, 2025, warned Obi against entering the state without prior notification, alleging that Obi’s previous visit led to violence and the deaths of three people.
In his words, “What I’m trying to explain is that there is a trend of tyranny, there is a trend not to respect the lives and movement of people. It started with Felix Morka, then continued with the Benue state governor, now we are seeing that trend with the Edo state governor. Felix Morka said that whatever Peter Obi Sees, he should take it like that. What does that mean? I was right here at the table, I had an interview and I removed asking if the APC is telling us something. Are they saying to us that the life of Mr. Peter Obi is not safe?
