Nigerian economist and politician Professor Pat Utomi has responded to a recent warning issued by Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okphebolo to former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Nigerian economist and political figure Professor Pat Utomi has expressed concern over recent remarks made by the governor of Edo State regarding the safety of political opponents. The governor had warned that the former governor of Anambra State could be at risk if he entered Edo without prior notice.

In response, Prof. Utomi took to his official X account on Sunday, July 20, 2025, to criticize the statement. He described such threats as alarming and a sign of growing instability. According to him, when state leaders suggest they cannot ensure the safety of individuals simply because of political differences, it sends a troubling message—especially to potential investors observing the nation’s political climate.
