National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, has praised the unwavering patriotism and compassion of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying he has “never come close to somebody who showed this kind of passion for Nigeria.”
Speaking during a recent interview with News Central TV from 17:30, Tanko reflected on his decades-long political career, stating, “I have worked with a lot of Nigerians. I’ve been in this politics at a young age — close to about 30 years of experience. I can tell you. I was presidential candidate. I was IPAC chairman. I was almost everything that I can be — anything.”
Despite his extensive political background, Tanko said Obi stood out for his selflessness and constant concern for the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. “Yes, I may not be extremely — I may not be rich and all, but I thank God for what God has given me. So I have not come close to somebody who showed this kind of passion for Nigeria, because on every day, on every second, what he thinks about is Nigeria. How do people live?” he said.
Tanko narrated a recent incident that left a lasting impression on him. “Clearly, just now when we were coming back from a journey, maybe because of the euphoria of things that you have seen about insecurity, a car was seen to be in a bush. So he said, ‘Tanko, there’s a car in that bush — it’s like some people have been gagged. Let’s turn back and check whether they need help.’”
The Obidient Movement leader posed a reflective question: “How many of our leaders can do that?”
Tanko’s comments come as many of Obi’s supporters continue to highlight the former Anambra governor’s perceived humility, empathy, and hands-on leadership style.
