A South-South political group has raised fresh concerns over former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of secretly planning to abandon the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, as reported by Daily Post on Thursday, 17 July, 2025.
The South-South Emerging Leaders’ Forum (SELF) made the claim in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement was signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Comrade Benjamin Kolowei.
According to the forum, reliable information suggests that Mr. Obi has already secured a new political platform.
They said he is only using the ADC coalition temporarily and will unveil his new party soon.
The group warned ADC leaders not to be blind to Obi’s alleged plans.
SELF claimed that Obi is not ready to work sincerely with other members of the coalition.
They accused him of being more interested in his own political ambition than in building a united front to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
Kolowei said the forum is making it public because it believes in fairness and transparency.
He added that the coalition must not allow itself to be manipulated by one individual.
The group advised ADC and its partners to remain focused on their mission to present a credible alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to them, only unity and sincerity can deliver victory in 2027.
SELF urged political leaders to be cautious in dealing with Mr. Obi, warning that his refusal to work closely with others could weaken the opposition’s strength.
”Although we have gathered reliably that Mr. Obi has secured another platform which he will soon unveil to contest in 2027, it is high time the leaders of the ADC coalition opened their two eyes. We are making it public that Peter Obi is not ready to cooperate and work with coalition leaders,” the group said.
