According to a report by Arise TV, Adebayo Shittu, a former member of the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has forecasted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will enjoy an unexpected wave of support from the Southeast in the 2027 presidential elections, while downplaying the lingering political influence of former Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi.
In the interview, the political analyst argued that the electoral dynamics in the Southeast have evolved significantly since the 2023 polls. He suggested that Tinubu’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could perform much better in the region than many anticipate. “If you know how many votes Tinubu and the APC will secure from the Southeast in 2027, you will be amazed. The Obi factor has lost momentum. During the last election, Obi concentrated all his efforts in the North because he felt the Southeast was a no-go area. This time, the landscape has shifted. Leaders like Dave Umahi and the Senate President are already convincing people in the region to back Tinubu,” he explained.
The former CPC stalwart expressed strong confidence in Tinubu’s political trajectory, asserting that many Nigerians are beginning to recognize the president’s reforms. “I can tell you with sincerity—Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win again. Nigerians may criticize for now, but his policies will be appreciated in time,” he said.
He also countered recent remarks by Northern elder statesman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who emphasized the electoral importance of the North. The ex-CPC member questioned why the South’s role in deciding presidential contests is often overlooked, insisting that no single region holds absolute control over Nigeria’s electoral map.
His comments highlight growing debates on regional alignments and the balance of political power as the country edges closer to the 2027 elections.
