Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has urged political leaders in Edo State, particularly Governor Monday Okpehbolo and the All Progressives Congress (APC), to embrace peace and resist the temptation of political retaliation against former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, Wike made the appeal during a visit to the state, where he spoke to party leaders and supporters ahead of the 2024 governorship election. His message was laced with a mixture of reconciliation and warning.
“Please, in the name of God, don’t go after him. Let him go,” Wike said, referring to Obaseki. However, he added pointedly, “But if he dares to come back, then.”
Wike also appealed to former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, who had a public falling-out with Obaseki, encouraging him to let go of personal grievances.
“Life is full of ups and downs,” he said. “Allow it, move on, for the development of Edo State.”
Wike emphasized that politics should never come before progress and development. “If we continue to look back, we can’t move forward,” he said.
