According to a report by DAILY TRUST on Friday, July 11, 2025, a number of supporters of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, have voiced their displeasure after they were allegedly denied entry into the Edo State Government House on Friday, despite showing up in large numbers to celebrate his Supreme Court victory.

The supporters, including market women, youths, and loyal members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had gathered early in the morning at the Benin City Airport to welcome the governor, whose election was recently affirmed by the Supreme Court. Many of them arrived as early as 7:00 a.m., determined to give the governor a grand reception upon his return.

Governor Okpebholo’s flight landed at approximately 12:40 p.m., and he was greeted by a jubilant crowd. From the airport, a roadshow ensued, with supporters following the governor through major streets of Benin City, singing, dancing, and waving party flags in celebration.

However, the celebratory mood quickly turned to disappointment when the crowd reached the Government House. Supporters were met by security officials at the entrance and denied access to the premises. According to accounts from some attendees, they were informed that only selected dignitaries and high-profile guests were permitted entry.

Speaking anonymously, one of the supporters said, “We were shocked when we got to the gate and were told we couldn’t go in. They said the governor gave instructions to only allow VIPs inside for refreshments.”

Mrs. Ebosele Omogiate, one of the visibly upset supporters, condemned the development. “This is not what we expected. During the campaign, we were treated like family, but now that victory has come, we are being kept outside. Even in difficult times under former Governor Obaseki, supporters were not treated like this,” she said.

Another supporter added, “I left my house before 7 a.m. to be part of the welcome team. We stood for hours in the sun and followed the convoy to Government House, only to be shut out. It’s disheartening.”
