In his interview with News Central TV FROM 13:03, Peoples Democratic Party leader Chief Bode George shared details about events following a previous election, highlighting concerns about political leadership and responsibility.
The party veteran revealed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had left the country after an electoral defeat. “What happened to my friend Atiku after that election? He ran to Dubai,” Chief George disclosed during the candid discussion.
He then recounted a visit from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who had sought clarification about the party’s situation. “One day Baba Obasanjo came to my house and said, ‘Bode, what is going on in your party?’ I said, ‘Sir, our leader is in Dubai,'” George narrated.
According to the PDP chieftain, the former president took direct action to address the situation. “Baba Obasanjo said he will go and bring him back. He went to Dubai to tell him to come back,” he revealed, adding that Atiku had expressed concerns about his safety. “He said he was afraid of General Buhari. Eventually he came.”
Chief George used the incident to emphasize broader principles about political leadership and accountability. “You don’t run away from responsibility. You are a political leader. You are exposed to the dictates, all the positivities, the negativities of the land,” he stated firmly.
The veteran politician then offered his definition of democratic governance. “And what is democracy? The management of the resources of that land for the benefit of the people. That’s right,” he explained.
He concluded with a challenge about the fundamental purpose of political involvement. “If you cannot stay and work for those people, then what are you doing in politics?” Chief George asked rhetorically.
