In a recent statement via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Dele Farotimi, a human rights lawyer and former spokesperson for the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), has reacted to the ongoing clashes between the Presidency and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The disagreement comes from Obasanjo’s criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government amid the nation’s economic hardships.
Obasanjo recently accused the Tinubu administration of failing to address Nigeria’s challenges effectively, his comments have brought heated reactions from Tinubu’s supporters, including members of the Presidency.
Farotimi shared his perspective on the issue and criticized Obasanjo’s record as a leader, questioning his moral authority to comment on governance.
“OBJ could have been as egotistic as he cared, if he had laid solid democratic foundations. He rigged, bribed, had zero respect for the rule of law, and he enabled some of the worst crimes against humanity too. Odi, Zaki Biam. OBJ has no moral capital to spend, that is the tragedy,” Farotimi wrote.
He accused Obasanjo of undermining democracy during his time in office and mentioned specific incidents, such as the military actions in Odi and Zaki Biam, as examples of Obasanjo’s alleged failures.
Farotimi argued that Obasanjo’s past actions have weakened his credibility as a critic of Tinubu’s government.
