According to a report by The Punch on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, A harrowing kidnapping in Edo State ended in an unexpected and dramatic escape for two brothers who had been held hostage earlier this month. Isaac and Victor Olayere, residents of Imoga in Akoko Edo Local Government Area, regained their freedom after being abducted while traveling along the Adughe–Imoga Road on November 8.
The brothers’ disappearance immediately sparked fear and concern across their community, with reports indicating that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N22 million for their release. The incident prompted urgent involvement from both local authorities and community vigilantes, who began tracking the perpetrators.
Confirming the astonishing development, the traditional ruler of Imoga Kingdom, Oba Patrick Obajoye, recounted the events that unfolded after the kidnapping was reported to the Ibillo Police Station. According to the monarch, an extraordinary turn of events occurred within the forest where the captives were held.
Oba Obajoye described the circumstances surrounding the escape, explaining that a sudden lapse in the vigilance of the armed kidnappers created an opening for the brothers. In his words, “It was said that somehow, the kidnappers suddenly went into a deep slumber in the forest, enabling their victims to escape. They were found by the vigilante of Adughe, a neighbouring community in Kogi that speaks the same Okpameri language as Uma/Imoga in Akoko Edo.”
After managing to flee their captors, the exhausted siblings were discovered by vigilante operatives in Adughe. The vigilantes, recognizing the brothers as members of the neighboring Imoga community due to shared cultural and linguistic ties, quickly offered assistance and alerted the authorities. The news of their escape mobilized youths from Imoga, who formed a search party to pursue the kidnappers.
However, by the time the Imoga search team reached the hideout, the kidnappers had regained consciousness and vanished into the forest, eluding capture. Despite the elusive perpetrators, the safe return of Isaac and Victor Olayere has been described by locals as nothing short of miraculous. View, More,
