According to a post on Saturday, 30 August 2025, by Honourable Lere Olayinka, Media Aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), His Excellency Nyesom Wike, the minister visited his family residence in Rumuepirikom Kingdom, Port Harcourt, after casting his vote in the Rivers State Local Government election.
The FCT Minister had earlier exercised his civic duty at Polling Unit 007, Ward 9, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Shortly after the voting process, he walked through the streets of Rumuepirikom to his family home, where he was warmly received by relatives, residents, and well-wishers.
Community members expressed excitement at his presence, with many coming out to exchange pleasantries and extend prayers. The atmosphere was filled with cheer as residents welcomed him back to his roots.
The visit, though simple, highlighted Wike’s enduring bond with his community despite his national responsibilities in Abuja.
His participation in the election and his subsequent visit to his family house served as a reminder of the importance of leaders staying connected to their grassroots.
The Rivers State Local Government election is ongoing across all 23 LGAs, with voters electing chairmen and councillors to serve at the grassroots level.
