The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike has reacted to the National Labour Congress (NLC) vow to protest against the cessation of Rivers State’s allocations. He criticized the NLC for what he described as using the institution to provoke crises and for overstepping their boundaries.
He expressed concern over the NLC’s reaction to court judgments that do not align with their interests, suggesting that they should respect the legal process rather than expecting favorable outcomes. He emphasized that if a judgment is unfavorable to the NLC, the appropriate course of action is to appeal through the legal system. He argued that this approach would foster a healthier legal environment and promote respect for judicial decisions.
He said in an interview with Symfoni from 4:13, ‘People today use labour to cause crisis. Labour will venture into where they are not supposed to venture into. Labour tells you that the judgment of the Court is against Labour’s interest, as if the judgment must be in your own interest. If a judgment is against labour, for example, is it not for you to follow the legal procedure and go on appeal? And in that way, there will be sanity, but trying to blackmail judges and justices to make them now begin to give their judgment based on social media – it’s not fair.”
