According to a report from Daily Trust Newspaper on Wednesday, February 5, Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has disclosed detailed accounts of statements allegedly made by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu about President Bola Tinubu during Federal Executive Council meetings in 2006.

The revelation comes amid an intense dispute between Ribadu and Hajia Naja’atu Muhammad, former Commissioner at the Police Service Commission. Muhammad posted a TikTok video claiming Ribadu had previously labeled Tinubu among governors who misappropriated public funds during his tenure as Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman.

Through his lawyer, Dr. Ahmed Raji SAN, Ribadu issued a formal demand for retraction and public apology from Muhammad. The legal notice, dated February 4, 2025, emphasized that Ribadu had never expressed such views about President Tinubu, either publicly or privately.

El-Rufai, intervening in the controversy, provided specific references to authenticate Muhammad’s claims. He cited Senate proceedings from 2006 and a particular Federal Executive Council meeting where he was present. According to El-Rufai, these documents contain Ribadu’s EFCC presentations accusing several sitting officials, including then-governor Tinubu.

“The record of proceedings in the Senate will confirm Nuhu made those statements in 2006. The conclusions of the Federal Executive Council, which can be subpoenaed from the Cabinet Secretariat of the SGF’s office, contain these allegations,” El-Rufai stated.

Muhammad has maintained her stance, refusing to offer any apology. She insisted that historical records support her claims about Ribadu’s previous positions regarding Tinubu.

The controversy has sparked significant attention to the documentation from 2006, particularly the Federal Executive Council meeting records and Senate proceedings that El-Rufai claims would verify these historical statements. El-Rufai suggested that these records could be retrieved from the Cabinet Secretariat to resolve any doubts about the accuracy of the claims.
