Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has recalled how the National Security Adviser (NSA) misled Nigeria’s Council of State during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration by claiming terrorists had been arrested, only for underage children to be paraded instead.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni, Dalung said elder statesmen were deceived into believing that government had scored a major victory against insurgents. “The National Security Advisor went to the National Council of State to deceive elder statesmen that government succeeded in arresting terrorists. So we were all waiting for the terrorists,” he recounted.
According to him, those familiar with the political situation already suspected foul play. “We in revolutionary politics knew that there was no single terrorist arrested. While we were waiting for this National Security Advisor’s terrorists, we saw underage, malnourished school children who had been starved for over 3 months. They couldn’t stand, paraded in court shamefully as it were,” he said.
Dalung criticized the move as a desperate attempt to cover up failure in the fight against insurgency, noting that the spectacle not only embarrassed the government but also exposed innocent children to further trauma. “They came off trying to manage the situation, but it was bad,” he added.
