Public affairs commentator Ahmed Raji has sparked national conversation following his appearance on Trust TV where he criticized sections of the northern elite for their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In the interview from 1:02, Raji stated that many of the northern voices speaking against the current government are driven more by personal ambition than genuine concern for national interest. He emphasized that no single region holds the monopoly on leadership in Nigeria and power must be shared equitably among all parts of the country.
“Northern Nigeria is not the only part of this country that can rule Nigeria,” Raji said during the interview. “It may need also the cooperation of other parts of Nigeria, so therefore, if somebody speaks of only northern Nigeria, he is not speaking on the fact that whether we need good governance, whether we need fairness and justice in the polity. To me, outrightly, I think he’s speaking on his own personal interest.”
Raji’s comments come amid rising political tension and criticism from some northern political figures who claim that the Tinubu administration is marginalizing the North. However, Raji argued that such claims often ignore the broader need for unity, national development and shared responsibility in governance.
The political analyst called for more honest and inclusive dialogue among Nigeria’s regions stressing that the country’s future depends on cooperation and not sectional dominance.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions across social and political circles, with some praising his candor while others accuse him of downplaying legitimate concerns from the North.
The debate continues as Nigerians await more clarity on the direction of the Tinubu government and its impact across all geopolitical zones.
